Hi everyone - we made it to the end of another week. I hope you are safe and well, wherever you are in the world.
Thanks to those recent subscribers who have shared feedback about the newsletter with me - it is always lovely to hear the impact these emails have on your thinking.
Speaking of impact (seamless link) that is our topic for this week. The original etymology of impact dates from around 1600, “press closely into something,” from Latin impactus, past participle of impingere “to push into, drive into, strike against,”.
As part of collaboration this week with Jamie Wahab - the Principal at St Christopher’s Catholic Primary School in Sydney - we created an Impact Canvas.
A set of provocations and questions to explore when considering the impact of your projects and initiatives.
(and yes everything has to be a canvas these days)
It was Jamie who noticed the broader application of this little template, so I have outlined three of the six main sections below and included the questions we developed together.

Work in progress this week.
Work in progress this week.
Vision + Values
  • How well does this initiative align with the broader community vision?
  • What does this project do to move us a step closer to the future state we aspire to?
  • Which of the community values is emphasised the most?
People + Empathy
  • How were the needs of the community met?
  • How well do we understand the people at the heart of this initiative?
  • What signals are there that we know our community and this initiative responds to their needs?
Impact + Success
  • How has this initiative made a positive difference?
  • What does success look like?
  • How well is impact defined in this project?
  • Are there clear criteria for the project to be assessed?
All you have to do to get a copy of the Impact Canvas PDF is reply to this email and (1) let me know what you enjoy about the newsletter and (2) how you would find the PDF useful. (If you are seeing this online you can email me here)
Thanks for joining me this week. Thanks also to Jamie for his open, collaborative approach and sharing in a great dialogue with me.
Let me know what resonates.
In dialogue we trust.
